Every superhero has an origin story.
At 28 years old and after 2,000 at-bats, I like to think Joey Gallo’s origin story actually just kicked off.
After being discarded by the New York Yankees, the occasional slugger has found a new home in Los Angeles where every hit is applauded, every home run is championed and every throw to home is heralded.
After batting .159 with 106 strikeouts in 273 plate appearances in New York, Gallo has three home runs in 35 plate appearances with the Dodgers and has an OPS of 1.038.
Let’s not get bogged down with sample size and the rest Gallo is allowed on this roster. This is a Joey fan post after all so it’s best not to quibble with details.
On Sunday, Gallo’s resurgence, nay, renaissance continued. He gunned down an audacious Joey Wendle at home and went 2-for-3 on the day with a triple.
I’m not saying that he should be in the conversation for MVP or anything. But if you feel the air cooling it’s not the advent of autumn but Gallo solving climate change.
