It’s been a minute, but America’s pastime will once again play out on the global stage with the best on the planet competing at the World Baseball Classic.
The event’s official social media channels posted the following sizzle video of the announcement.
Qualifiers kick off things in September with games out of Regensburg, Germany, and Panama City, Panama.
The marquee event takes place in March 2023 with pool play unfolding in Taiwan, Tokyo, Phoenix and Miami. This leads up to the semifinals and finals that will take place in Miami from March 19-21.
This culminates the longest wait fans have endured to enjoy the WBC. Initially launched in 2006, the event saw Japan win that inaugural year and the following tournament in 2009. The Dominican Republic took the crown in 2013 and the United States played victor in 2017.
It’s now been five long years and one unrelenting pandemic since the world cheered on its respective teams.
For those curious, USA will get going in Pool C action in Phoenix March 11-15, facing off against the likes of Mexico, Colombia, Canada and the third team to qualify in the fall.
WBC, welcome back. We’ve missed you.
